Chemelot and Energy Transition
As the central point of contact for the 150 companies at Chemelot and its surroundings, Robert Claasen, in the role of executive director Chemelot, has been taking the lead since February 2017 to realize the joint ambition of Europe's most competitive and sustainable site, as described in the vision Chemelot 2025.
Chemelot acts as a growth engine for economy and employment in the Southern part of Limburg. The business area and the cooperation between the 150 established companies on Chemelot give the area a special character. Every year a turnover of 10 billion euros is realized by the companies based on Chemelot and their business is focused on further growth. In the meantime, the Chemelot 2025 vision is showing its first fruits. We continue to follow and accelerate that path to fulfill this ambition.
Claasen studied Chemical Technology and then worked at the engineering firm Tebodin as a process engineer and manager. From 1996 he held various positions at DSM, both as a manager of plants and in general management, both in the Netherlands and abroad. From 2014, he has held various management and advisory positions, including at Tebodin as a board member. Claasen is described as an enterprising and strategic thinker. A driven and result-oriented leader who combines market and customer focus with operational excellence. Shows ownership and inspires others to do the same. Knowing to get people involved in change processes and to motivate them to make a difference together.
