This is ExxonMobil

Energy enables economic growth and social progress in countries around the world.

Energy is the lifeblood of prosperity. It supports higher living standards and enables people around the world to benefit from the advantages of our modern, technologically advanced society. As we look to the future, one thing is certain: Even with growing efficiency, the world is going to need more energy.

Meeting this important challenge will require technological innovation and an investment strategy that is focused on long-term value creation -- as well as a commitment to integrity and environmental protection. ExxonMobil’s competitive advantages – a balanced portfolio, disciplined investing, high-impact technologies, operational excellence and global integration – position us well to help meet this challenge and create long-term value for our shareholders.

ExxonMobil’s Upstream portfolio encompasses high-quality exploration opportunities across all resource types and geographies; an industry-leading resource base; a portfolio of world-class projects; and a diverse set of producing assets.

In 2012, we captured 22 new opportunities spanning unconventional and conventional plays. At year-end 2012, our exploration acreage totaled 60 million net acres in 32 countries. Our unconventional experience in North America
enabled us to successfully capture new unconventional acreage positions in Australia, Canada, Colombia, Germany and Indonesia. Our combination of technical expertise, extensive global databases and industry-leading research
facilities allows ExxonMobil Upstream to identify, pursue and selectively capture the highest-quality opportunities across all resource types and environments.

We participated in three major startups in 2012 and plan to bring 28 major projects online between 2013 and 2017, which are expected to net approximately 1 million oil-equivalent barrels per day to our production volumes
by 2017.

Near-term production activity will focus on starting up 18 projects in 2013 and 2014, including 16 that are liquids or gas with liquids-linked pricing. Additionally, we will continue to develop our material North American unconventional resources. Long term, we will pursue profitable growth by leveraging our technical expertise to develop a diverse global project portfolio.

With our detailed knowledge of global energy markets, we are also able to capitalize on growing natural gas and power markets. In 2012, we sold more than 15.2 billion net cubic feet per day of gas across 33 countries, including participation in liquefied natural gas operations that delivered 61 million metric tonnes to global markets.

Our commitment to research and development is a key contributor to our long-term success. We develop and apply innovative solutions to increasingly complex technical challenges. Our breakthrough technologies enable the discovery of new resources, access to harsh environments and the economic development of challenging reservoirs never before thought possible.

Overall, our Upstream business continues to apply effective risk management, safety and operational excellence across our integrated global businesses.
