Wells Engineering: A journey through the subsurface in The Netherlands
Ever wondered how an oil & gas operator can safely drill to over five kilometers depth to hit a fifty square meter target? What technologies are involved and what considerations come into play? How is it possible to drill horizontally or offshore in deep-water environments?
A Well Engineer develops, plans, costs, schedules and supervises the operations necessary to the process of drilling oil and gas wells, from initial well design to testing, completion and ultimately abandonment. They work with other professionals, such as geologists and geoscientists, to monitor drilling progress, oversee safety management and ensure the protection of the environment.
In this lecture, Rob Reijngoud, general manager Wells Operations, will explain the principles of Wells Engineering. With a background in mechanical engineering, Rob started his career in a small company in hydraulic machines. This involved a lot of traveling all over the world. With an appetite to discover more, after three years Rob decided to join Shell. He has had operational roles in Scotland, Turkey, Oman and The Netherlands. His responsibilities are equivalent to running a medium-large company in dimensions and capital expenditure. Rob is married, has two children and enjoys fishing for Atlantic blue marlins.
Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemicals companies. Shell’s aim is to help meet the energy needs of society in ways that are economically, environmentally and socially responsible.
The location of the lecture, drinks and dinner is at the Van Swinderen Huys. For more information and registration see http:/mastersofengineering.nl. The deadline of the application for the recruiment dinner is the 19th of November. The selection is based on resume.
